PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) options for expanding its “big tent” are limited as few political partners can match Barisan Nasional’s (BN) ability to attract Malay voters, say analysts.
Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said PH was aware that it still needed Umno, given the party’s continued ability to draw Malay voters whom PH currently struggles to reach on its own.
He said Amanah secretary-general Faiz Fadzil’s suggestion that PH expand its “big tent” could be read as a signal to Umno that the coalition had alternatives.
However, Azmi said these alternatives were limited, with Bersatu among the parties that could potentially help PH win some Malay support, although its strength was still no match for Umno or BN.
