Person in serious condition after incident at West Auckland’s LynnMall Shopping Centre

A violent knife incident at LynnMall in West Auckland resulted in one person being hospitalized in serious condition and another in police custody. Authorities have described the event as an isolated altercation between members of the public.

One person is in custody after a man was seen covered in blood and screams rang out in a violent confrontation at West Auckland’s LynnMall that has left a person with serious injuries.
Waitematā West Area Commander, Inspector Simon Walker, said police were called to the mall about 11.10am.
“Two parties have had an altercation, with one suffering moderate injuries,” Walker said.
“This is an isolated event and there is no risk to the wider public.
“Police will be increasing patrols in and around New Lynn today to provide a visible presence in the area.”
Meanwhile, Kiwi Property, which owns LynnMall, acknowledged an incident with a knife had taken place.
“We’re aware of an isolated knife incident in the carpark at LynnMall, resulting in emergency services attending to assist,” a Kiwi Property spokesperson said.
“This is a police matter, with police managing the response and investigating the circumstances further.
