People’s groups seek action on Dalit issues

The Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS), CITU and other people’s organisations staged a protest at the Collectorate on Thursday seeking action on issues they said were affecting Dalit communities.
KVPS State general secretary Andra Malyadri said Dalits continue to face caste discrimination and alleged that incidents of custodial deaths, murders, assaults, sexual violence, caste abuse and honour killings persisted. He said a month-long survey conducted across the State by the KVPS, CITU and other people’s organisations under the “Samajika Shankharavam” programme had brought several problems faced by Dalits to their notice.
