Payne takes second straight Ipswich Supercars pole
Matt Payne secured his second consecutive pole position at the Ipswich Supercars event with a final-lap effort. He narrowly edged out Brodie Kostecki, while other top contenders like Will Brown and Chaz Mostert rounded out the top four.

Despite being on a used super soft tyre, Payne put the Grove Racing Ford Mustang atop the timesheets at the death.
Payne logged a 1:08.3582s to put himself a meagre 0.0683s clear of Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki.
The Lucky Dogs looked like they might lock out the front row until the final seconds when Payne stitched together his second straight pole position lap.
Will Brown continued his resurgence with third place for Triple Eight while Chaz Mostert was fourth for Walkinshaw TWG Racing.
Kostecki, Mostert and Brown were all speedy in Q1, so much so that they elected against a second run and saved a set of tyres for Q2.
All three drivers elected to set their best laps still with several minutes remaining in Q2 but were ultimately beaten by Payne’s last-gasp lap.
