Pawan Kalyan directs officials to speed up Great Green Wall project in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has ordered the acceleration of the 'Great Green Wall' project to protect the coastline from erosion. The initiative focuses on mangrove restoration and large-scale plantation to build a natural barrier against extreme weather.
Why it matters
Coastal protection projects are increasingly important for climate change adaptation and safeguarding vulnerable populations from natural disasters.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment and Forests K. Pawan Kalyan on Monday directed officials to expedite works under the Great Green Wall of Andhra Pradesh project aimed at protecting mangroves and preventing coastal erosion, while noting that the initiative had earned national recognition.
Reviewing the progress of the project, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said the Great Green Wall, envisaged as a five-kilometre-wide natural barrier along the coastline, would play a key role in protecting coastal areas from extreme weather events. He said an action plan had been prepared to expand the green wall over 8,888 hectares during the current year.
