Patta distribution in A.P. should not be used as poll campaign, says CPI(M)

CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government distribute house-site pattas to all eligible homeless poor families, saying that the proposed ‘Pattabhishekam for the Poor’ programme should not be used for political campaigning.

Addressing the media at the party office here on Monday, Mr. Babu Rao said the government should distribute house sites and pattas to at least one lakh homeless poor people in Vijayawada and NTR district.

He claimed that of the 24,042 pattas proposed to be distributed, 21,450, or about 90 per cent, were pattas issued earlier, while only 2,586 were new. He alleged that 12,710 beneficiaries who had received pattas under previous governments were being included again, while names had been changed in another 8,746 cases.
