Patients struggle as Soroti hospital CT scan machine breaks down

Patients requiring scans are being referred from Soroti Regional Referral Hospital following the breakdown of the facility’s Computed Tomography (CT) scan machine four months ago.

Ms Grace Rose Sagal, from Olilim in Katakwi, said that three weeks ago she was forced to incur the burden of hiring an ambulance to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after doctors recommended a scan for her 70-year-old relative, yet it was unavailable in Soroti.

“For the service that we would ideally pay only Shs 150,000 at Soroti Hospital, it cost us altogether Shs 400,000 including the cost of hiring an ambulance,” Ms Sagal said.

Soroti Regional Referral Hospital administrator, Mr Benzy Omoya, told this publication on Wednesday that the CT scan at the facility broke down in May this year.
