‘Partners for Multilateralism’: India to attend new non-superpower grouping’s inaugural session at UN
India is set to join the 'Partners for Multilateralism' (P4M) initiative, a new grouping of nations aiming to support UN-based multilateralism outside of superpower influence. The group seeks to reform international institutions to better address global challenges like AI, climate change, and health security.

India will join several countries committed to supporting United Nations (UN)-based multilateralism, away from “superpower” politics, as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will attend the “Partners for Multilateralism” (P4M) meet in New York on Monday (September 21, 2026).
The P4M initiative, founded by leaders of the European Union, Brazil, Kenya and Canada is expected to make a pitch for the grouping at the UN General Assembly’s “high-level debate” session this week.
In a joint editorial, leaders of the four founders said the grouping will support the UN but push for it to be more representative and prepared for global challenges, including AI (Artificial Intelligence), climate change, health security and digital transformation.
