Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project Day was observed in Pollachi on Wednesday (October 7), with Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath Kumar paying floral tributes to the statues of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, former MLA V.K. Palanisami Gounder, former Union Finance Minister C. Subramaniam and former MLA Pollachi N. Mahalingam on the premises of the office of Water Resources Department (WRD) Chief Engineer.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Mr. Sampath Kumar said the day was observed every year on October 7, marking the commencement of the Parambikulam-Aliyar Irrigation Project on October 7, 1961. He said the observance was intended to recall the contributions of the leaders who worked for the development of the project and to spread awareness among the younger generation about the importance of water management and conservation.
