Police said a section of villagers of Kannanallur near Valliyoor were protesting on Friday after there was no drinking water supply to the village for the past few days.
When village panchayat president Maharajan, 54, was pacifying the protestors, an unidentified person in the crowd threw a stone that hit him. As Maharajan swooned, the protestors gave-up their agitation and tried to rush him to the hospital. However, he died on the spot.
