Palaniswami slams TVK govt. for failing to safeguard ‘permanent solution’ to Cauvery dispute

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday (August 3, 2026) criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led State government for not having safeguarded Tamil Nadu’s legally secured “permanent solution” to the Cauvery dispute.
Interacting with journalists after paying floral homage to freedom fighter ’Dheeran’ Chinnamalai’s statue in Guindy, Mr. Palaniswami recalled that the “permanent solution” was obtained when his party was in power.
The former Chief Minister said that in the past, whether under the AIADMK government or the DMK government, consultations were held with all political parties and farmers’ groups whenever the Cauvery or Mekedatu issues arose. Despite the calls made by him and leaders of other parties and farmers’ groups, the present regime in the State was “least bothered” about it.
