AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday said there had been no decline in drug abuse during the tenure of the TVK government.
Participating in the debate on demand for grands for the Home Department in the Assembly, Mr. Palaniswami said there did not appear to have been any significant reduction in sexual offences against women and girl children either. Incidents of murder, robbery and chain-snatching had also not declined, while crimes against senior citizens continued to be reported, he said.
Referring to the increasing instances of illegal bike racing in cities such as Chennai, Mr. Palaniswami said two-wheelers were being driven recklessly at high speeds on major roads, posing a danger to other road users and causing inconvenience to motorists.
