The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday accused the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led government for being “negligent“ towards the expeditious procurement of paddy in the State.

Claiming that thousands of paddy bags had been damaged in the recent spell of rain in different districts, Mr Palaniswami, in a statement, gave an account of the damage having been caused to paddy bags in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts. Besides, there were reports of damage to paddy bags, that were meant for procurement at direct purchase centres in various districts, including Thanjavur and Tiruvarur.

The AIADMK leader urged the government to take steps for the speedy procurement of paddy.
