Palakkad DMO warns against H1N1 spread

The District Medical Officer (DMO) has warned the public to remain cautious against H1N1, a respiratory disease that spreads rapidly through the air due to influenza A virus.
High fever, chills, sore throat, cough, running nose, body pain, headache and severe fatigue are its main symptoms.
The DMO said the infection spreads when a patient coughs or sneezes and the virus remains in the air, or when a person touches objects used by the patient and then touches the eyes or nose.
The disease usually subsides in a few days, but those with breathing difficulty and chest pain should seek treatment at the nearest hospital immediately.
Bedridden patients, those with serious illness, pregnant women and children below two years of age should consult a doctor if they have fever or other symptoms, said the DMO.
