Former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the proposed bifurcation of the Palakkad Railway Division, describing it as “the biggest betrayal” of Keralam in the history of Indian Railways.

Mr. Sudheeran demanded that the Keralam Assembly convene a special session and pass a resolution against the move. He also called for an all-party delegation comprising all MLAs and political leaders, led by the Chief Minister, to meet the Prime Minister and register Keralam’s protest.

He said the exclusion of the high-revenue-generating Mangaluru region from the Palakkad Division would adversely affect railway development in Keralam.

“The decision to split the division is a serious blow to the State’s railway interests,” Mr. Sudheeran said.
