Pakistan reports 6th polio case of 2026
Pakistan has recorded its sixth polio case of 2026, involving a seven-year-old boy in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Despite significant progress in reducing cases over the last few decades, the virus remains persistent in specific high-risk regions.
Why it matters
Polio eradication is a critical global health goal, and persistent transmission in Pakistan highlights the challenges of vaccine delivery in conflict-prone or remote areas.
Pakistan health officials report the sixth polio case of 2026 in a seven-year-old male from Union Council Ghundi-A, in Tehsil Jamrud, Khyber District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
Five of this year’s six cases have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, four of them from Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone.
