An East Auckland school community is grieving the sudden death of one of its veteran teachers.
Pakūranga College announced the death of Dr David Hofman in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon, saying he had died over the weekend after a “brave, private battle with cancer”.
Hofman, a longstanding member of the maths faculty, was remembered by the college as a devoted and genuine educator who strove to make maths accessible to students.
“Dr Hofman was kind, incredibly intelligent, and had a wonderfully quirky sense of humour!” it wrote.
“He built genuine relationships with students; he cared deeply about them, and they absolutely loved being taught by him.
“His sense of humour was appreciated by staff and students alike.”
Despite undergoing treatment, Hofman remained committed to teaching.
