Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) supported the Dominican Republic with a technical mission from 14 to 17 September 2026 to advance progress toward the global road map to defeat meningitis by 2030 and strengthen national and regional efforts to eliminate bacterial meningitis as a public health problem.

Working with national health authorities, the mission convened multidisciplinary teams covering epidemiology, laboratory services, clinical care, immunization, and health promotion. PAHO and international experts carried out a national workshop and conducted facility visits in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros, as well as technical exchanges at the Dr. Defilló National Reference Laboratory.
