President Marcos has ordered the release of P1 billion for Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (NOAH) to strengthen the government's capacity to forecast and respond to floods and other hazards worsened by climate change.

Mahar Lagmay, executive director of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI), said the additional funding would allow Project NOAH to strengthen flood management, hazard monitoring, and disaster-risk-reduction systems.

Lagmay, a UP geology professor, said in interviews with state and private broadcast media over the weekend that he hoped the funding would help translate scientific information into measures that protect communities from disasters.

President Marcos directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to release the funding for UPRI, which manages Project NOAH, to support impact-based forecasting using historical records, satellite imagery, rainfall data, and other datasets.
