Owaisi demands Permanent Residence Certificate to help Telangana electors in SIR process
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has requested the Telangana government to issue Permanent Residence Certificates to electors during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He argues this would simplify the process for poor voters to be included in the final rolls.
Why it matters
The proposal addresses administrative hurdles in voter registration and touches upon the broader debate of electoral transparency and inclusion.
Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday (July 10, 2026) met Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and reiterated his demand that the Telangana government issue Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) or Family Register Certificates to electors during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Mr. Owaisi reasoned that the move would help genuine voters to be included in the final electoral rolls.
Taking to X, Mr. Owaisi, who is the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) said he met the Chief Secretary along with Congress leader Faheem Qureshi to represent the issue. He said the certificates could be issued under Article 162 of the Constitution if the government decided to do so.
He urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to accept the suggestion , stating that it would benefit poor people in ensuring that their names find a place in the final SIR electoral rolls while sparing them unnecessary hardship and inconvenience.
