Owaisi demands extension of SIR schedule

Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday termed the October 17 deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls grossly inadequate and demanded that sufficient time be given to ensure that no genuine voter is excluded from the final rolls.

Mr Owaisi said all genuine electors must be included in the electoral rolls and argued that people who have been issued notices require at least two months to respond to them. The present deadline, he said, did not provide adequate time for voters to complete the process.

Turning to allegations of financial irregularities in the management of the Ram Mandir, Mr Owaisi questioned the government over why action had not been taken against those accused of wrongdoing.

“Who appointed the previous persons? The entire matter was raised in the Parliament. Despite this, crores of rupees were siphoned off,” he said, referring to the allegations of embezzlement.
