Overseas sericulture trainees vow to promote silk industry in their countries

A four-week training programme in sericulture for 21 participants from 10 countries, organised at the Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Mysuru, concluded on Wednesday.
The programme, conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, comprised theoretical lectures and practical sessions, besides field visits to farmers’ fields, cocoon markets and silk product showrooms.
At the valedictory programme held on Tuesday, participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Cuba, Ghana, Maldives, Mauritius, Nigeria, the Philippines, Thailand and Zambia presented an overview of the status of sericulture in their respective countries, along with the challenges and prospects for its promotion.
Appreciating the comprehensive training provided by CSRTI, the Central Silk Board (CSB) and the International Sericultural Commission (ISC), the participants sought continued technical support in pre-cocoon and post-cocoon activities as well as marketing.
