Over a fifth of the electors in Telangana might get deleted in SIR

Telangana is undergoing a Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, with over 20% of electors potentially facing deletion due to uncollectable forms or logical discrepancies. Officials will begin issuing verification notices on August 17, 2026, with final rolls expected by October.
Why it matters
The integrity of electoral rolls is fundamental to democratic processes, and large-scale deletions can significantly impact voter participation and representation.
More than a fifth of the electors throughout Telangana are likely to be deleted in the draft electoral rolls to be published at the end of the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in the State.
Around the same number of electors who submitted the form might receive notices from the office of the Electoral Registration Officers for verification.
The enumeration phase ends at midnight of August 10, 2026, after two extensions since July 24, 2026. Draft electoral rolls will be published after a week, on August 17, 2026.
As at 6 p.m. on the final day, a total 73,47,075 enumeration forms have been categorised as ‘Uncollectable’, which, the Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy has explained, are the forms not returned by the electors. They constitute close to 22% of the total State electorate.
