Over 69,000 students in Madurai to benefit as breakfast scheme expands to Classes from 6 to 8

The Tamil Nadu government’s breakfast scheme is set for a rollout in Madurai. Starting September 22, 2026, the “Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme” will officially expand to include students studying in classes six through eight across all government and government-aided schools in the district.
According to an official press release issued by the District Collector Nishant Krishna, a total of 574 schools have been selected across Madurai district for the programme’s rollout - 400 schools located in rural areas and 174 schools located in urban areas
In total, 69,730 students in the sixth to eight grades are expected to benefit daily from the nutritious meals.
