Over 36,000 people benefit from 108 ambulance service in Erode in seven months

As many as 36,310 people in the district have benefited from the 108 emergency ambulance service during the first seven months of 2026, according to Ramesh, district coordinator of the service.

Of the total beneficiaries, 5,534 were pregnant women. The number of pregnant women who availed themselves of the service was 1,320 in January, 1,326 in February, 1,364 in March, 1,431 in April, 1,443 in May, 1,543 in June and 1,479 in July.

Mr. Ramesh said that 46 ambulances were currently operating in the district. These included 35 basic life support ambulances, eight advanced life support ambulances, two ambulances equipped to transport newborns and two bike ambulances. The service was being used to transport people requiring immediate medical attention in cases of road accidents, childbirth and other emergencies, he said.
