Over 25 firefighters battle blaze in Dublin mountains

Dublin Fire Brigade successfully contained a large wildfire in the Dublin Mountains that had reignited after initial efforts. Firefighters noted that tinder-dry conditions and shifting winds made the operation particularly difficult.
Why it matters
The incident underscores the increasing frequency of wildfires in regions experiencing prolonged dry weather, posing risks to local infrastructure and safety.
A district officer with Dublin Fire Brigade has said a large wildfire in the Dublin Mountains yesterday has died down considerably and is being monitored closely.
More than 25 firefighters and other emergency services were called to deal with the fire at Glencullen which had reignited after previous efforts to extinguish it at the weekend.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Darren O'Connor said: "Last night we had four pumped appliances and a water tanker and a wildfire jeep, that is based in Dún Laoghaire, and a senior officer there [in Glencullen]."
Mr O’Connor said the fire has since died down considerably and is being monitored by the local landowner, with crews withdrawing just after midnight.
He said a significant change of wind direction and an increase in wind speed brought the smoke over the top of the mountain, which, after it cooled, went down over south Dublin.
