Political and governance commentators say Uganda’s candidate for Secretary-General of the United Nations, Olara Otunnu, has bolstered his chances of assuming the top job, but warn a lot of work needs to be done.
The positive reviews come after Mr Otunnu held an interactive dialogue with the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, during which he called for reforms of the UN in his 10-page vision statement, which concluded with what he said was his inspiration drawn from the prayer of St Francis of Assisi.
Dr Gerald Kagambirwe Karyeija, a Professor of Public Administration and the Management at Uganda Management Institute (UMI), says Mr Otunnu’s candidature addresses both international and domestic politics.
