DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are set to accelerate implementation of strategic joint projects, including the planned Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) link through Burundi and a national fibre-optic cable across Lake Tanganyika.
The commitment was reaffirmed by Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, during a farewell meeting with DRC's Ambassador to Tanzania Jean Pierre Massala, who has completed his tour of duty in the country.
The meeting was held at the Ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
Soeaking at the meeting, Kombo said Tanzania is committed to deepening strategic cooperation with the DRC in transport, mining, oil and gas, defence and security, while speeding up joint projects that would deliver tangible benefits to citizens of both countries.
