Opener left out as Australia reveal squad for second Test
Australia has updated its cricket squad for the second Test against Bangladesh, replacing opener Jake Weatherald with Matthew Renshaw. The move follows a poor batting performance in the first Test, with coach Andrew McDonald also addressing concerns regarding Marnus Labuschagne's form.
Why it matters
This squad adjustment reflects the high-stakes nature of the ICC World Test Championship, where team selection is critical for maintaining competitive standing.
Australia have made one change to their squad for the second and final *ICC World Test Championship* fixture against Bangladesh in Mackay.
Opener Jake Weatherald has been dropped from the 13-player squad, with left-hander Matthew Renshaw named as his replacement.
If selected it would be Renshaw's first appearance at Test level for more than three years, with the 30-year-old's last Test cap coming in Delhi against India back in 2023 when he came in as a concussion substitute for regular opener David Warner.
Renshaw has since featured for Australia in both ODI and T20I cricket, but wins a recall to the Test arena following a disappointing performance from the Aussies' top-order in the first Test against Bangladesh.
