OpenAI launches GPT-6 Cyber for approved security teams
OpenAI has released GPT-6 Cyber, a specialized model designed for authorized vulnerability research and penetration testing. The model has already successfully identified high-severity vulnerabilities in Firefox and the Linux kernel.
Why it matters
The deployment of AI in cybersecurity research represents a significant shift in how software vulnerabilities are discovered and patched, potentially accelerating security improvements.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Cyber on November 5, a GPT-6 Astra model trained for authorized vulnerability research. It found 81 previously unknown Firefox vulnerabilities Mozilla rated high severity, and Mozilla has shipped fixes for many. In Linux kernel research, it reproduced 1,724 vulnerabilities and developed working exploits for 948. Access starts with approved Daybreak Red customers through the API and Codex.

GPT-6 Cyber found 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox vulnerabilities, and Mozilla has shipped fixes for many of them.
In ExploitGym Honeypot testing it went out of scope in 0.07% of runs without safety instructions and zero with them.
Approved Daybreak Red customers get access first through OpenAI's API and Codex, with critical infrastructure defenders in their own group.
