(Roberto Schmidt/Getty Images) A leading voice in artificial intelligence warned lawmakers this week that they have little time to put additional safeguards in place as AI technology rapidly advances.

Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, known as the "Godfather of AI" and a 2024 Nobel Prize winner in physics, issued the warning following a closed-door congressional briefing hosted by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and attended by other AI experts and lawmakers.

When asked by Fox News senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram how long lawmakers have to get ahead of AI before it becomes a serious problem, Hinton gave a blunt answer.
