Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow received a timely boost after Udodi Onwuzurike and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi claimed podium finishes at the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest. Onwuzurike continued his impressive season by finishing third in the men’s 200 metres in 20.18 seconds, matching his season’s best performance. Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba placed second in 20.09 seconds, while Morocco’s Yassine Hssine won the race in a national record time of 19.92 seconds. The podium finish underlines Onwuzurike’s consistency as Team Nigeria intensifies preparations for Glasgow. In the men’s shot put, African record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi also secured third place with a best throw of 21.48 metres.
