Onion supply at subsidised price for family cardholders initiated in Coimbatore, Tiruppur districts
Authorities in Coimbatore and Tiruppur have begun selling onions at a subsidized rate of ₹35 per kg to family cardholders. This initiative aims to provide relief to citizens following a sharp increase in open market prices.

Supply of onions to family cardholders at subsidised price of ₹35 per kg was inaugurated on Thursday at the Singanallur Consumer Cooperative Store in Coimbatore by District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.
Coimbatore district has received an allocation of 85 metric tonnes for distribution through 650 urban fair price shops, the Collector said.
This measure of the State government comes in the wake of spurt in the price of onions in the open market in the range of ₹55 to ₹60 per kg.
