Onion sale through ration shop commenced

Sale of onion through the ration shops in Tirunelveli district commenced on Thursday as the Tamil Nadu Government has started selling the inseparable vegetable of Indian kitchens after its price increased sharply due to low arrival.
Inaugurating the sale of onion at the rate of ₹35 per kg at Diocesan Cooperative Society ration shop in Palayamkottai, District Collector Anand Mohan said the Tamil Nadu Government, after onion price rise, had procured it from National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Limited and started selling it through the ration shops at the nominal price.
The 30 tonnes of onion thus sourced from these organisations would be sold through 212 full-time ration shops across the district.
