Android skins used to be mostly cosmetic. Samsung moved a few buttons, Xiaomi added more customisation, OPPO changed the animations, and most of the important work still happened underneath in Android itself.

That description feels increasingly outdated in 2026.

Samsung is trying to turn One UI 9 into an operating system where AI agents can act across apps and then report what they did.
