One of the last remaining Douglas DC-8 freighters, with registration 9S-AJO, has been involved in an accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Operated by Trans Air Cargo Service (TACS), the Douglas DC-8 was involved in a runway excursion at N’Djili International Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa, DR Congo, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The aircraft reportedly overran or veered off the runway during landing.
Initial reports indicate the DC-8 came to a stop after leaving the paved runway area.
The incident is particularly notable because 9S-AJO is one of the world’s very few remaining DC-8s in commercial cargo service.
The aircraft, which is around 56 years old, has been operated by the Trans Air Cargo Service for many years.
