A 72-year-old retired Fire and Rescue Services official was killed and nine others injured in an alleged drunk-driving incident near Aban Junction in Pathanamthitta town on Wednesday (August 26, 2026) evening.
The deceased was identified as Abubacker, 72, a resident of Valanjuzhi in Pathanamthitta. The incident occurred around 6.45 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car and knocked down 10 pedestrians. The car also rammed two other cars, damaging both vehicles. The driver, identified as 48-year-old Jinu Babu, and his fellow traveller, 24-year-old Vishwajith, also sustained injuries in the accident. They were later taken into custody by the police.
