Why it matters
Public participation in budget-making is a constitutional requirement in Kenya, directly impacting national spending priorities and economic policy.
The National Treasury is set to begin three days of public sector hearings on the proposed 2027/28 financial year budget and the medium-term expenditure framework.
The hearings seek views from stakeholders on government spending priorities.
They will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on October 9, 12 and 13, 2026, in line with constitutional provisions requiring public participation in the budget-making process.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi Ng’ongo and PS Chris Kiptoo will officially launch the exercise, alongside Budget and Appropriations Committee chairperson Samuel Atandi.
The opening day's programme includes a presentation on the macroeconomic outlook for the 2027/28 financial year and the medium term by Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo.
Discussions will also cover the health sector, general economic and commercial affairs, and energy, infrastructure and information and communications technology.
