Olivia Rodrigo's third album is difficult to form an opinion on

A review of Olivia Rodrigo's third album suggests it is difficult to categorize compared to her previous work. While the author praises her lyrical growth, they note that the album lacks the experimental edge found in her earlier records.
Why it matters
This reflects the challenges artists face when evolving their sound while trying to maintain the commercial success of their debut works.
Even if you’re not a huge fan of an artist, following their journey through their early music career can be very exciting. Olivia Rodrigo is certainly no exception.
After receiving no shortage of acclaim for her debut album, “SOUR,” Rodrigo was catapulted to the forefront of the mainstream, with a huge portion of the track list enjoying radio play. This is a feat that, in retrospect, I haven’t seen since Adele’s “21.” Now, I don’t enjoy listening to “SOUR” — at all, really — but Rodrigo’s ability to appeal to such a large number of people through her messy depictions of teenage breakups deserves applause.
