Ogidi Community Celebrates New Yam Festival in Grand Style, Showcases Igbo Heritage - Daily News Nigeria

‎Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State was agog at the weekend as the traditional ruler, HRH Igwe (Pharm.) Alexander Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi, led his people in celebrating the 2026 New Yam festival.

‎The ancient festival, held at the Igwe’s palace, attracted sons and daughters of Ogidi at home and in diaspora, traditional title holders, cultural dance troupes and masquerade groups, all in thanksgiving to the gods and ancestors for a bountiful farming season.

‎Performing the symbolic cutting of the new yam, Igwe Onyido said the festival remains a core Igbo tradition that teaches hard work and gratitude.
