Officials call for peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Puttaparthi
District officials in Puttaparthi have issued guidelines for peaceful Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, emphasizing public safety, traffic management, and environmental protection. Authorities have directed police to secure procession routes and urged residents to use eco-friendly clay idols to prevent water pollution.
Why it matters
Local administration efforts to balance religious festivities with public safety and environmental sustainability are critical for managing large-scale public events in India.
The Sri Sathya Sai district administration appealed to the peace committee members and organisers of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities to make comprehensive arrangements for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the festival, with a focus on public safety, traffic management, and environmental protection.
District Collector A. Shyam Prasad and Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar on Friday (August 28, 2026) reviewed the arrangements for Ganesh Chaturthi festivities at the Collectorate. They sought details of problems faced by organisers and discussed possible difficulties during idol immersion.
The Collector directed the police to strengthen security along procession routes and introduce traffic diversions wherever necessary to prevent congestion.
Speaking to the media, the Collector said that the departments were instructed to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, electricity, lighting and sanitation facilities at idol installation and immersion points.
