Obuasi SHTS: Some parents being threatened to drop case

A parent of a student at Obuasi Senior High Technical School has alleged that families of victims in a sexual abuse case involving the former headmaster are being intimidated. The Ghana Education Service has interdicted the headmaster while investigations continue.
Why it matters
The case highlights issues of institutional accountability and the protection of minors within the educational system in Ghana.
A father of a student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), who was allegedly sexually abused by the interdicted headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, says some parents of affected students are being threatened to abandon the matter.
John Kwaku Bobena made the allegation in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem , insisting that the case should be allowed to follow its course without intimidation.
According to him, the matter has been under investigation at the Tutuka Police Station for several months, with recent developments raising questions about the progress and outcome of the investigations.
Mr Bobena said he was recently contacted by a radio station and informed that investigations had found no wrongdoing on the part of the headmaster.
He, however, maintained that the matter should not be dismissed as a personal vendetta against the school’s head.
