NZ driver Liam Lawson logs top 10 finishes in F1 Bahrain Grand Prix practice sessions
Formula One drivers participated in practice sessions for the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is being hosted in Malaysia. Charles Leclerc led the second session, while New Zealand's Liam Lawson showed strong performance in his debut sessions.
Why it matters
The event highlights the logistical flexibility of the F1 calendar and the performance of emerging drivers in high-stakes racing.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has topped Friday's second Formula One practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, while Mercedes' championship leader Kimi Antonelli struggled to find his rhythm at a dusty Sepang circuit.
Leclerc lapped the 5.543 km circuit with a time of one minute, 37.528 seconds, less than a tenth of a second faster than Red Bull's Isack Hadjar who improved his lap time on the soft tyres.
McLaren's reigning world champion Lando Norris was third-fastest in FP2 after finishing 12th in the first session at the Sepang International Circuit, which is hosting the Bahrain race due to the conflict in the Middle East.
New Zealand driver Liam Lawson had a strong first day, recording the eighth-fastest time in Practice 1 and 9th in Practice 2.
