A female nurse was found dead inside the washroom of N.R.S. Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata late on Wednesday (August 12, 2026), officials said.

The Kolkata Police has ordered a probe into the incident.

The 30-year-old nurse was on night shift at the hospital and had joined work on Wednesday around 8 p.m. Around two hours later, her colleagues could not locate her. Later, they found her lying unconscious on the bathroom floor inside the hospital, the Kolkata Police officials said on Thursday (August 13, 2026).

She was declared dead after being shifted for medical treatment, according to the officials. “She was immediately shifted for medical treatment, where the attending doctor examined her and declared her dead. Upon thorough checking of the scene, no visible marks of injury and no suicidal note were found,” they added.
