The High Court in Masaka has adjourned the hearing of an election petition in which National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa is challenging the victory of State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere as the Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament.
Presiding judge Justice Bernard Namanya adjourned the matter to September 30 and October 1, after admitting key video evidence presented by the petitioner showing what transpired during a controversial vote recount. During Tuesday's proceedings, Ms Nalubowa testified that she stormed out of the Electoral Commission (EC) tally center after discovering a ballot box with a broken seal. According to Ms Nalubowa, Masaka Chief Magistrate Albert Asiimwe—who was conducting the recount—had initially promised not to proceed with compromised ballot boxes, but reversed his decision.
