This match was billed as a must-win to give the Warriors their best shot at making a finals debut, and they would have felt confident coming into it against a Sharks team struggling at the bottom of the ladder.
The home side didn’t struggle to score tries, crossing over for five in the first half to take a 20-16 lead at the break.
Stacey Waaka, Mele Hufanga, Payton Takimoana (twice) and Lavinia Tauhalaliku each ran in scores to put the Warriors ahead after the Sharks raced to a 10-point lead in the first 10 minutes.
Where the New Zealanders did struggle, though, was in their goal-kicking, as none of those first-half tries were converted.
