North Queensland Cowboys coach Todd Payten has apologised after his side conceded the most points in an NRL match in 91 years after losing 82-12 to the Sydney Roosters.
The Roosters ran in 14 tries with Mark Nawaqanitawase and Sam Walker both claiming hat-tricks.
The latter scored 36 points, after kicking 12 goals, and matched the individual record for most points in a game in the NRL era.
Terry Campese and Ryan Papenhuyzen are the other two players to have achieved that total.
The team total of 82 was the most since the Roosters beat Canterbury 87-7 in 1935. It was also the third-highest in premiership history and the most in the NRL era.
The Roosters also equalled the NRL record for most points by halftime after putting 48 past the home side.
