Officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department inspected fast food outlets within Erode Corporation limits following complaints of unhygienic food preparation and the use of artificial colouring agents. Notices were served on 11 establishments for violations.
During the inspections, Food Safety Officers M. Muthukrishnan, S. Kesavaraj and S. Selvan found that kitchens in some establishments were maintained in unhygienic conditions. Other violations included the use of Ajinomoto (monosodium glutamate) without displaying the required warning notices, excessive use of artificial colouring agents, and the use of plastic bags banned by the State government for packing food items.
Following the inspections, notices were issued to 11 outlets under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Recommendations were also sent to the District Designated Officer to initiate action to impose penalties for the violations detected.
