Nothing CEO says company’s mysterious AI-first device is dropping next month

Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced that the company will release a new 'AI-native' productivity tool in December. The device is described as screenless and non-app based, distinguishing it from current AI wearable trends.
Why it matters
This highlights the ongoing industry search for a unique hardware form factor for AI, moving beyond traditional smartphone and wearable interfaces.
Nothing, the smartphone startup behind the distinctive Nothing Phone , is working on an AI product, but what it is remains unclear.
On Wednesday, CEO Carl Pei posted on X that the company’s first “AI-native product” ships in December. “It’s a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product. It has no new screen, and it couldn’t have been an app,” Pei wrote.
Pei has teased an AI-first device for some time and the company has also said that it plans to release a pair of AI-linked smart glasses, as well as earbuds with AI integrations.
Pei’s description adds up to a screenless non-app that uses AI? He also calls it as a “productivity tool.” Adding further mystique to the announcement, Pei seems to downplay any link to AI wearables.
