Not yet known when female might be promoted to general in Latvian army for first time
The Latvian National Armed Forces (NBS) currently has no female generals, despite having four female colonels on active duty. Promotion to the rank of general is restricted by limited available positions and strict regulatory requirements.

RIGA - It is currently unknown when any of the four female colonels serving in the National Armed Forces (NBS) might be promoted to general, and at the same time, the army acknowledges that the number of positions intended for generals is limited.
LETA has learned that Ilze Zilde, Liene Karale, Evija Sipola, and Antonina Blodone currently hold the rank of colonel in active duty with the NBS. LETA's archives show that Zilde is the first female colonel in the Latvian Armed Forces. She has held this rank for at least five years.
While there have been female generals in the Ministry of the Interior and the prison system, no women currently hold this rank within the NBS.
